Description

ASTM A563 Hex Nuts

The ASTM A563 specification is for carbon and alloy steel nuts. This covers chemical and mechanical requirements for eight grades of carbon and alloy steel nuts for general structural and mechanical uses on bolts, studs, and other externally threaded parts.

According to the ASTM A563 standard, “The requirements for any grade of nut may, at the supplier’s option, and with notice to the purchaser, be fulfilled by furnishing nuts of one of the stronger grades specified herein unless such substitution is barred in the inquiry and purchase order.” And, Nuts made in accordance with the requirements of Specification A 194/A 194M, Grade 2H, and marked with its grade symbol are an acceptable equivalent for Grade DH nuts. When A 194 zinc-coated inch series nuts are supplied, the zinc coating, over-tapping, lubrication and rotational capacity testing shall be in accordance with Specification A 563.

Note: Galvanized nuts are nuts intended for use with externally threaded fasteners that are hot-dip galvanized, mechanically galvanized, or plated or coated with sufficient thickness. This requires over-tapping of the nut threads to provide assemblability.

There are many types of nuts, such as hex nuts, heavy hex nuts, square nuts, cap nuts, flange nuts, coupling nuts, nylon lock nuts and more.

Common surface treatments for nuts include blackening, hot-dip galvanizing, electro-galvanizing, Teflon (PTFE), Dacromet and others. All of these can be provided by our factory.
